Orchard Pics

Here are some pictures from the Orchard. It is a lot easier to upload pictures from our new computer. So much faster! So let's hope for more. Enjoy!

Halloween

Here is Caleb's new Halloween costume. He was a little apprehensive about putting it on, but I am going to keep pushing it so he can wear it tomorrow at day care. The day care plans on taking some of the kids to local businesses to trick-or-treat. I think Caleb will love it! We won't go anywhere tomorrow night, just answer the door all evening. :)

baby appointment

so as i mentioned earlier i had a non-stress test this morning. i had a wake up call while at my appointment. last week when i was being monitored the babies heart rate was around 130. this week it was up in the 150's. so my mind instantly thinks, what happens if the doctor thinks this is too high, we need to take him/her now. i began to think of all the things that need to be done- putting the clothes we do have in the dresser, buying a car seat!, getting a place for the baby to sleep. i need to really get a move on and get some things done- just in case! i ordered the car seat tonight, so hopefully that will be here soon.

What a Day!

Well, today was supposed to be a pretty regular day. I had a doctor's appointment this morning around 10 so Caleb and I came home this morning watched "Go, Go" , (which is Go, Diego, Go), ate breakfast and checked emails. We left with plenty of toys, books and snacks to keep Caleb occupied at my appointment about 9:30. At my appointment he actually did a really good job. He went into the (tiny) bathroom with me so I could give my "sample" and then when it was time to go in for my non-stress test he sat in his stroller with his books, magna-doodle and water. He sat really well, towards the end he kept expecting the nurse to come back to check on us and when he found his fruit snacks instead of asking me to open them he would yell towards the door- "Nack! Nack!" It was pretty funny. Side Note- He pointed to my belly tonight and said "Baby"! Yay, one step closer to realizing his whole world is about to change!

Anyway, on with our day. We left the doctor's office and went straight to Fareway to buy juice and milk for Kids Club. Then we went to KMart to get him a Halloween costume. We decided on the puppy costume because between a horse and puppy, Caleb chose puppy. :) We tried on some new hats and gloves and got a pair of water proof mittens for snow play. As we were walking around (Caleb in the back of the cart) I kept having to remind Caleb to sit on his bottom. We went down the baby aisle and I was looking at clearance crib sheets when I heard a thud. Caleb had fallen over the edge of the cart! When I looked over at him all I saw was his glasses laying on the floor, the one ear piece completely sticking straight out, so I knew he landed on his face. I picked him up and he cried momentarily, but not very hard for as hard as he fell. He started rubbing his face in my shoulder and trying to snuggle and sleep. It was pretty much his nap time at this time, but since he had just fallen I couldn't let him sleep and it made me very nervous that he was this sleepy all of a sudden. So we checked out quickly and called the Doctor when we got to the car. The doctor's office kept me on hold for quite awhile so I called First Nurse to see if it was necessary to see a doctor or not. She said that because it was a fall from such a high place that he should see a doctor. So I called the doctor back and the receptionist tells me that a nurse will have to speak with me first and she would have her call me back. I started getting a little freaked then, but let her take my name and number. A couple minutes later the nurse called back and told me that I could make an appointment for 3:40 (it was 12:20), and come in early at like 1:30. I broke down at that point and just started bawling. I told her that he was already practically sleeping and I don't know what was wrong and that I was already on my way there... so on and so on. She put me on hold and then told me that the 2nd call doctor would see me right away. (It pays to be an irrational pregnant woman!) We got into the doctor's office and she looked at his eyes and ears. She palpitated around his eye where his glasses had cut his eyelid a little. She said that had he been a little older she would probably recommend a CT scan on the safe side, but the risks out way the possibilities of damage. But she did want him to have X-Rays just to be on the safe side that there were no fractures around his eye. Well, this was an ordeal in itself. I brought Caleb in the X-Ray room. He sat on the chair like such a big boy and was great. I had to leave the room for obvious reasons and he said "bye, bye" and still sat on the chair. Once they shut the door and actually had to position him, he let loose! They ended up having to get a board to "papason" him. I think that is what they called it. They basically laid him in this board and wrapped him up so he would stay still. He was not a happy camper! The ladies finally brought him out and say "he's a fighter!" Uh, yeah! I know. He was fine once he was in my arms. We saw the doctor one last time and she said that there was no fracture, but to watch for any vomiting or lethargicness (if that's a word!). I mentioned that he would be going to day care in like 1/2 an hour and she kind of gave me a "what a horrible mother" look. But, while he was in the office the last time he was sitting looking at a book and playing with a toy. He was up walking around. Talking to me like normal. So I was not too worried about taking him to day care. I know his providers and they are very attentive. Well, he was fine the rest of the day and when we got home tonight was running around being naughty like normal. But, it was pretty stressful day for just going to the doctor and shopping! I know it was an obvious mistake- why let your son sit in the back of the cart? That is so dangerous! But, he begs to sit back there and I just thought, why not? I guess I have learned my lesson that no matter how much he fusses, he will be sitting in the front buckled in. We'll see how this works when the baby is born.

Videos

This is only video that would download. All the others were too long. This is Caleb's first live view of ducks. It was pretty cute!

The Weekend.

So far this weekend has gone really well. I know, it is only Sunday morning! Chris had Friday off so he stayed home with Caleb all day. Then yesterday we ran to Ames and did our weekly errands. We went out to the mall first to avoid game day traffic (ISU vs Nebraska makes for some crazy traffic right by our Wal-Mart). Chris got his haircut and Caleb and I went shoe shopping while he was busy with that. I usually like to go to Payless for Caleb, especially when they have their BOGO sale, but the shoes they had in Caleb's size were either really picked over or their toddler shoe buyer needs to be replaced. The shoes were very ugly. I am not a huge fan of shoes with characters on them or of plain white velro one's. I was not pleased. So we jumped over to JC Penneys and found a nice pair that was on sale. After we left the mall we went to the grocery store and to Wal-Mart. Off to home for Caleb's nap and some lunch! After Caleb's nap we left for the Apple Orchard. They have really updated some things since last year. There were about a million people there, but it didn't seem too bad. They got a new jumping pillow that the kids (and parents) were loving jumping on. I took some video of Caleb while he was on it. I'll try to post the shorter one on here later. He would get to the top and the other people on there would make him fall down so then he just stayed layihg down and would bounce off to the side. It was hilarious. There were kids falling down everywhere and crying- Caleb, even after a fall that made Chris and I gasp, would just look up and laugh. You'll see on the video. :) Then we went out to eat Chinese at Hy-Vee. That was our busy day yesterday!

Today I have a staff meeting at noon in Ames. Caleb will need to go to my meeting with me since Chris has softball. After that we will go to Chris' softball game and then hopefully get some cleaning done downstairs. I would really like to get that done soon so I can steam clean the carpets.

Mental Health Day

So, yesterday was not much better with Caleb. I took him to my doctor appointment yesterday and he was perfect. We then went to Wal-Mart and he was fine. Then stopped at my office to drop off a couple papers, he didn't want to hold my hand, but was cheerful. Then we went to Fareway to get groceries for Kids Club. I should've stopped before then. The entire time we were in Fareway he was hitting me. I would pull the cart fromthe front so he couldn't, but everytime I would need to push the cart I was being pummelled. It sucked. I brought him home, fed him lunch and put him down for nap as soon as I could. 45 minutes later he was finally asleep. Argh! So, after yesterday's stresses I decided I would leave caleb at day care all day today. My house is a mess and I need to do a lot of work, so its not like I will be napping (at least not all day long!) But, I feel a little guilty. I spoke with the day care lady yesterday about how he has been naughty and so on. Her suggestion- why don't you keep him at day care until 10:30 every morning that way he will get more stability. Now, I am not sure if it is just pregnancy hormones or what, but when I heard her say that I felt really crappy. First, am I not giving him stability at home? How is 2 extra mornings a week at day care going to solve behavior issues at home? Is she milking me for more money? I don't know what to do. Hopefully after spending this rainy day at home alone to do what I need to do I will feel a little more relaxed. Wish me luck.

(Sorry this post is so all over the place- again the pregnancy thing)

Big Brother

The other night we were in the car talking to Caleb about Isaac's new baby and Emma's new baby. We asked Caleb if he wanted to bring a baby home like Emma and Isaac. The answer normally varies day to day, but that night he said, yes. I asked him if he was going to be a big helper and get mommy diapers and bottles, he said, yes. I asked him if he was going to be nice to the baby and give the baby hugs and kisses. He said- push. When I repeated this conversation with him today he of course said, no he doesn't want a baby and he won't help with the baby and still again- push. Great.

7 weeks

I cannot beleive that I only have 7 weeks until I will be a mother of 2. Our neighbors across the street had their baby on October 3rd. We went over last night to bring them a lasagna they could have now or freeze. Caleb and Isaac played pretty well together. I kept asking Dana what it was like having 2, and she couldn't tell me yet. She said they are still in the surreal phase. I haven't been able to talk to Mindy for awhile, but I need to ask her as well- What is it like having 2? I am so nervous! I think I am more nervous about having 2 kids than I ever was about having only 1.

My main concern is that Caleb fluctuates so much in his behavior. Some days he is attentive, listens well to directions and can't be sweeter. Other days (like yesterday and today) he is just blatantly naughty! An example that comes to mind and is the easiest to explain is when we were at Chris' softball game yesterday the team stood around the parking lot after the game eating birthday cake for one of the players. Caleb is hopped up on sugar running around which was fine, but he kept trying to pull at the door handles of cars. After repeatedly telling him to not touch cars I put him in his car seat for a "time out". After he did his time I spoke to him about not touching cars and that if he did I would put him right back into time out. "Okay, yes mommy- sorry". We walked back to the group and on the way there (5 feet) he walked up to the car that he had previously opened the driver's door to and was just about to touch the bumper. I reminded him that if he touched the car he would go straight back to time out. He smiled! Stuck out his finger and touched the car as I am repeating over and over- "Don't touch!" Little Shit! So needless to say we went back to the car for a time out. I am at a loss as to what to do with him. he is purposefully naughty probably to get attention and I haven't even had a baby yet! ugh.

Today we went to my work for a meeting, it was a short meeting and didn't want to leave him at day care for it, which during the meeting for the most part he did well. Pushed chairs around, slid in his belly on the tables, played with his toys I brought for him (it was only 1/2 hour). There is a small fountain outside of the office and on the way in I told Caleb we would look at it when we left. So I let him lean on the wet sides watching the water having a great time. He was on the opposite side o fthe fountain when I told him it was time to go. He ignored me. I knew that if I started walking around the fountain it would be a game of chase, so I just repeated that it was time to go- (A little about this fountain it is on the corner of 2 roads, only about 8 feet across) He bagan to walk towards the road and I told him to stop and walked towards him. He giggled and ran the opposite direction towards the building. i sped up hoping to grab him by the sleeve with no luck. I did not want to chase him. He then started running toward the other street with me having to yell at him to stop right now! OMG! I finally got him and put him in his stroller and told him I was very upset with him and that he never should run away from mommy. He just giggled. I am at my wits end with this child. Please remember- these are only 2 very recent stories that are somewhat easy to explain how he acts. It is also the little things he does that are so frequent and are such everyday occurences that put me at a loss as to what to do. I can't imagine carrying an infant while trying to wrangle him into doing something.

Again, he has his good days, but they are so far and in between it is frustrating! Does anyone have a solution- a good book or reference? (Sorry to have gone on a rant!)

Dedicated to Joanne

With our computer we were able to get a free flip video camera, so I was playing around last night. Hopefully this is easy enough and you will get to see lots of videos!

Updates

Well, I had an OB appointment today. Everything is fine, the baby is doing great, my sugars look good and are staying in check. So we have set the official date! The baby will be born on Friday, November 28th. The day after Thanksgiving. She is going to book the OR room and let me know what time at my next appointment in 2 weeks. After that appointment I have to start going once a week for non-stress tests and general checks. So to be prepared I have already made all of my appointments up until the baby is born! Am I organized or what? haha! That is about it in babay world. S/he is moving like crazy! I love watching my belly move when the baby does. We are still in the processes of getting the house ready, Caleb's room is ready for the most part, we will need to put the crib back into a crib instread of the toddler bed, but that won't be used for awhile after the baby is born anyway. His toys also need to be moved out of his room once I get the downstairs completed. I haven't had time for awhile to really work down there. Maybe this weekend. Chris is going on the road for harvest tomorrow. So it will be just Caleb and I for awhile. Of course that means I have to take Caleb to daycare at 6:30 in the morning and if it is an "all day" day for him he won't be picked up until 6pm. Long day for him! At least he likes day care and stays busy there, so I don't feel quite so bad. Anywho, I better get started on supper.
