This weekend was sort of a bust! Saturday I had to attend and present at a conference in Cedar Falls. We had to leave Ames at 6:30 and didn't return until 6:30! It was a very long day. Chris and Caleb went to a family birthday party. I wasn't too disappointed about not being able to go, it always seems when we get together with that side of the family there is always some kind of drama, whether it be all day or the very last 5 minutes. Chris said the day went well, so it was the last 5 minutes that it happened. Where to have Christmas... Tell me your opinion, does it make more sense for 4 families to drive over 1 1/2 hours to someone's house for a Christmas celebration or 1 family to do that drive? Especially when you may have horrible weather... Ugh! Why is it even up for debate?
Anyway, Sunday we got up and Chris started putting in windows. Then we went to town to get groceries and some extra supplies from Lowe's. We got home, fed Caleb, and put him down for a nap. Chris put a window in and then it was time for Softball. The game was not a good one this week, but hopefully next week will be better. We got home from the game and played outside with the neighbor boys while Chris was still busy putting in windows. Chris was able to install 5 windows yesterday, he got done around 9:30. So pretty boring weekend... Next weekend we will be going home possibly Friday night until Saurday evening for my nephews 1st birthday.

Broke as a Joke!
We finally have decided on and purchased our new computer. It is a Dell and to us it will be perfect. Chris wouldn't let me spend the extra $25 to get the red one I wanted though, darnit! Oh, well. So there goes about $1,000 out of savings!
The other day when Chris was helping me organize downstairs we opened up the windows to get fresh air and we realized how crappy the windows were downstairs. We figured that if we were actually going to start using that space we should probably make it livable and "economical". So we decided to look into getting new windows. Chris also felt that we should probably invest in new doors, one for the front and an insulated one that leads to the garage. Well, I guess when Chris decides something, he gets it done! Thursday he went to Lowe's for "work" and found the exact windows we will need (that will fit and match the one's we put in upstairs), since they were in stock he went ahead and bought them. Then he was at Home Depot today (for work, again) and saw a front door there he thought I would like. It had a very minor scuff on it and was on sale to begin with so he bought the front door for $100 cheaper than it should be. We ended up going to Home Depot again when I got off work to buy the small window next to the door and buy the door to the garage. In total we will be putting in 7 new windows, an insulated door to the garage and a new front door with side window all for $1600. So Chris will have a pretty busy weekend ahead of him! haha! At least we will "save" money in the long run on our heating bill!
Donations are welcome! :)

OMG! Again!
While Caleb was eating lunch today I was doing dishes and look over at him and he tells me "nose" and shoves his finger up his nose. Learning from past experiences I figured he probably stuck somethig up there again! I went over and looked up his nose and saw he had a pea stuck up there! So, I leaned him back in his highchair, closed his empty nostril and blew in his mouth. He wasn't super thrilled with that, but I tried again. This time I blew a little harder and then look in his nose- nothing was in there! The pea somehow shot out, but made it into his mouth! So he chewed it down and kept on eating. I could not stop laughing! Thanks for the good advice the last time Michelle!
Moral: If your child sticks something up his/her nose- plug the empty nostril and blow into their mouth. Works like a charm! :)

Getting Ready
For the past couple of weeks I have been working on cleaning our our downstairs. I brought a bunch of junk home from work when we didn't have the storage space, so I had to organize that and figure out what I want/need to keep- that took a couple days itself. Then I spent a day organizing my "teaching" room. Yes, I still have a bunch of crap I saved and gathered when I was going to be a teacher, maybe someday it will see the outside world again!
Yesterday I made Chris help me and we got some major stuff moved. My plan for our downstairs, if you have ever seen it, is to make the large room a toy room/family room. I want an extra area for Caleb to be able to play in this winter when we are cooped up in the house! The guest room will still have a lot of things stored in it, but we moved the weight machine and treadmill in there and we will be moving our old tv and stand in soon.
It still looks ridiculously messy and unorganized, but I think I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! Only a couple more weeks and it should be complete!

Animal Crackers
Caleb loves animal crackers, he could eat them all day if we let him. On Saturday Chris and I were cleaning up the house getting ready to go out that night so I put Caleb on his couch with a bowl of crackers. It was the end of the bag so they were bits and pieces. I come in to sit with him for a minute and realize that he was not putting the "legs" in his mouth but had inserted one in his nose. I had him walk with me to show Chris and by the time we got back to the bedroom he had proceeded to push it further up his nose! We took a flashlight and could only see dark chunks (they were chocolate crackers). He was getting upset since we were holding him down so some of the cracker would come out a little at a time. I called the doctor and she said to come right in, but then Caleb blew out a pretty good size chunk and we called her back and said it was out. I gave him a bath directly after all of this and as he is sitting in the tub out comes an entire cracker leg on his lip! I could not believe he had shoved it that far in! Oh, my gosh! My mom used to joke when we were younger not to stick beans up our noses while she was gone, but I think the animal cracker leg up the nose will last with Caleb for a lot of his life!

Counting Caleb
Since Caleb was born I have been stealing Chris' change off the counter and putting it into Caleb's piggy bank in his room. The other day we went to the bank to turn it in and he has $57 in change. That didn't even include all the $20's, 10's and 5's from birthdays, Christmas and other holidays. I was amazed!
Anyway, I have started letting Caleb put the money in his bank on his own now and last night I gave him a small handful of change. While he puts them in I usually count the coins as they drop. Last night I started counting and when I got to six I thought I heard him say something that resembled seven. I didn't think anything of it- went on and when I got to eight he then said, nine! I couldn't believe my ears! I know a lot of that skill probably has to do with daycare, but it makes me feel good that he is getting more from daycare than just the social aspect.

Busy Weekend
This weekend went so fast! All day on Saturday we were at a Mid Volleyball tournament that Chris was playing in. We got to Guthrie Center about 12:00 and didn't leave until 8:30! Long day. Caleb did so well, again. He got a little fussy and wanted out of his stroller, so as often as I could I would let him run, but with as many cars, people, cans and mud around it was difficult to give him free reign. So since Saturday was a bust in the project department we got started nice and early Sunday morning.
I had Chris take the doors off Caleb's closet and paint it. We moved Caleb's dresser and diaper shelf into the closet to give us room for his new toddler bed. We went to Ames later in the afternoon- we got groceries, looked at new tv's and baby stuff. I am really getting into looking at little girl clothes. I don't know what we are having and we are not planning on finding out. I also do not "feel" that it is one or the other, but I really want to buy little girl clothes. I made myself a list of "must-haves"- onesies, sleepers, etc. and I am going to get the necessities in pink. :) I figure I will buy it all at Wal-Mart and other easily returnable stores just in case. But, I am excited to start collecting pink things, even if we don't keep it!
Well, to finish off the weekend on Monday we went to Des Moines to look for a new tv. Our tv started to turn black and white on us pretty often, so we new it was time to invest in a tv that we actually bought on our own. Every tv, with the exception of the one I bought for my college dorm room, has been a hand-me-down for us. So we figured with "the switch" happening in February and our tv on the blitz it would be a good time to get a new one. Chris did a little research and they had fairly decent sales with weekend so we bought a 46" Sony Bravia LCD. And of course I had to get a new tv stand! :) We went inexensive at Wal-Mart for that. We also invested in a combo dvd/vhs player. Caleb's favorite movies are all on vhs and the vcr we had in the living room was ancient, so again, it was time.
