Menu

Each week I write a "menu" for the week.  So when I grocery shop I have those ingredients on hand to make a least a handful of meals.  Well.  It hasn't been working lately.  We don't follow the menu very well and it seems to be the same things each week.  A few of my friends have been saying that they make a monthly calendar.  I thought that was a little extreme at first, but I realized that it would mean a lot less boredom... So I sat down and wrote a monthly menu.  Each week I tried to include a soup, a pasta, mexican, chinese, and then a beef.  (We have a ton of beef)  My goal was to not include too many foods that needed a recipe or that would take a long time to prep and cook.  I am still going to shop one week at a time, but this way I am not eating the same things each week.  My goal from this is to actaully be organized and cook these meals each night.  Otherwise we don't eat homecooked meals- we fall back on ordering pizza or eating cereal.  I also allow myself to switch meals around within the week.  So, when I have night meetings, or we have plans in the evening we can substitute easier meals.

This is what we have planned for this week:
Sunday- Chicken Enchiladas, Lettuce
Monday- Chili, corn
Tuesday- Spaghetti and Meatballs, salad
Wednesday- Pot Roast
Thursday- Chicken, Rice and Broccoli
Friday- Out with neighbors
Saturday- Cheeseburgers, Sweet Pot. Fries

I even went as far to put this in my google calendar and planned out what prep I needed to do!  Sad I know!  But, hopefully knowing that I need to make the meatballs for tomorrow night this morning, because I won't be home tonight and we have a playdate tomorrow morning, will get the meatballs done so we can eat them!!  :0)  Over kill, but hopefully it works.
